Logan Seith, who, along with members of the National Music Festival’s percussion ensemble, wowed the audience last year with his performance pieces at the Garfield Center, will bring his quartet to town on Friday, February 22, 8 pm, for a show featuring jazz standards as well as original material.
The young quartet is comprised of the next generation of “cross-over” musicians. Members met while attending the University of Maryland, and while their current focus is jazz, they all have played and continue to play in other genres as well, which brings an added dimension to their renditions of standards.
Seith, jazz drummer and classical percussionist, has studied with National Symphony Orchestra members, jazz artist Chuck Redd, and has performed in the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, University Jazz Band, Jazz Lab, the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra and the National Music Festival.
Pianist Michael Sinni is a jazz pianist and violist residing near Washington, D.C. He is currently pursuing degrees on both instruments from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a violist, Michael has performed with various orchestras in the greater Washington, D.C. area, including the Fairfax, Annapolis, and University of Maryland symphony orchestras. He is also a member of the University of Maryland jazz ensemble and is a regular jazz combo performer.
Jeremy Milliner has played the trumpet for thirteen years, and is also capable of playing variations of the instrument (cornet, pocket trumpet, piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn). He has been a part of the Montgomery all-county band, Maryland all-state band, all-county jazz band, and Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra. His primary genre of focus is jazz, and he has been a member of Chris Vadala’s jazz lab and ensemble bands for four years, playing as lead soloist for the past two. Jeremy has studied and performed classical and ragtime music, and has composed and arranged various originals.
Bassist Alex Nowak, who is studying jazz bass at the University of Maryland, and performs in the UMD Jazz Lab Band, among others, rounds out the quartet. Prior to jazz, he played “a lot of metal;” his musical interests have since diversified considerably.
The show is sponsored by the Chestertown Jazz Festival. Seith and his band were initially set to perform this past summer at the festival, but due to scheduling difficulties, the act was postponed to this year.
The ticket price is $10, and are available at the Garfield Center for the Arts box office, 410 810 2060 or online at https://www.garfieldcenter.org/.
