Del. Heather Mizeur, D-Montgomery, addressed the Democratic Club of Queen Anne’s County’s last Thursday at Fisherman’s Inn on the Kent Narrows — finding common ground with the Eastern Shore audience — saying her decision to buy a farm in Kent County with her wife, Deborah, was influenced by her experiences growing up in rural Illinois.
She spoke about the achievements of the 2012 session, most notably passing marriage equality and granting the right of immigrant children to receive instate tuition rates. The likely gubernatorial candidate then moved to the major issues facing the current session, such as gun control and restoring highway user funds to local communities through a possible gas tax.
Mizeur also made a case for how bipartisan efforts can work in an age of division among the two political parties and highlighted her partnership with Mike Smigiel, R-Cecil, in reducing the number of abortions in the state through meaningful family planning legislation.
The video is a little under 13 minutes.
Though she has not officially announced, Mizeur and politicos close to her say she will most likely make a run for governor in 2014.
Part II of Mizeur’s Q&A with QAC Democrats will be aired tomorrow, with her views on Marcellus Shale exploration in Western Maryland and local responsibility for the Chesapeake Bay cleanup plan.

I say she settles for Lt. Governor

Have you heard her speak? If not, on what do you base your conclusion? Part of her message is that no one should be limited from doing the best she/he can. Based on a stellar record in the legislature, she would make a superb gubernatorial candidate and should be offered that opportunity should she want to pursue it.
