County Notes: Commissioner Rasin Facing Health Challenges

Kent County Commissioner Alex Rasin repeated to the Chestertown Spy Thursday morning what he had told his colleagues at their regular commissioner meeting on Tuesday night, that he facing two significant health challenges.

Over the past few months, Mr. Rasin has been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a heart ailment that affects a person’s heart rate. He has also had a preliminary diagnosis of an illness closely related to Parkinson’s disease.  He is being treated by Johns Hopkins Medical for both conditions.

While both health concerns are treatable, they come with side effects that Commissioner Rasin wanted to make the public aware of, including troubles at times with walking and general balance.  ”Sometimes I just walk funny,” said Rasin. “I’m sure this must be a sight for some, but it has nothing to do with my intellectual capacities, despite what some Democrats might say,” he quipped.

Mr. Rasin is committed to finishing his term as commissioner as well as Chairman of the Board for Peoples Bank over the next few years. At the same time, he is looking forward to slowing down with his law practice until he formally retires.
